What is Cherry Tomato? Also known as mini tomato or sweet tiny tomato, cherry tomato is a small, round, and juicy fruit that belongs to the tomato family. Unlike large beefsteak tomatoes, cherry tomatoes are bite-sized (about 1-2 cm in diameter), with a bright red or yellow skin, tender flesh, and a perfect balance of sweetness and slight tartness. They are not only delicious to eat fresh but also suitable for salads, snacks, pickling, and decorating dishes—making them a popular choice for home gardens, balconies, and small planting spaces.
Nutritional Value of Cherry Tomatoes: These tiny fruits are packed with nutrients and low in calories, making them a healthy addition to your diet. They are rich in vitamin C, which boosts immunity and promotes skin health; lycopene, a powerful antioxidant that helps protect cells from damage; vitamin A, which supports eye health; and dietary fiber, which aids digestion. Cherry tomatoes also contain potassium, folate, and various minerals, allowing you to enjoy deliciousness while getting natural nutrition.
Planting Guide (Practical & Easy to Follow): Our cherry tomato seeds are high-germination, suitable for both beginners and experienced gardeners, and can be planted in pots (balconies) or outdoor gardens.
1. Sowing Preparation: Choose a well-drained potting mix (or amend garden soil with compost to improve fertility). Soak the seeds in warm water for 4-6 hours to speed up germination (this step is optional but recommended). Fill pots or seed trays with soil, water thoroughly, and let the excess water drain.
2. Sowing: Sow the seeds 0.5-1 cm deep into the soil, spacing each seed 2-3 cm apart. Cover with a thin layer of soil, gently press down, and water lightly to keep the soil moist (avoid overwatering to prevent seed rot).
3. Germination & Seedling Care: Place the seed tray in a warm, well-lit area (temperature 20-25℃ is ideal). Germination will take 7-10 days. Once the seedlings grow 2-3 true leaves, thin them out—keep the strongest seedling in each pot to ensure sufficient space for growth. Water regularly, keeping the soil moist but not waterlogged.
4. Transplanting (if needed): When the seedlings grow to 10-15 cm tall, transplant them into larger pots (15-20 cm in diameter) or outdoor gardens. Choose a sunny location (6-8 hours of direct sunlight per day) because cherry tomatoes love sunlight and need it to bear more fruits.
5. Daily Care: Tie the tomato vines to a stake or trellis as they grow to keep them upright and improve air circulation. Fertilize once every 2-3 weeks with a balanced fertilizer (preferably organic fertilizer) during the growing period. Prune the side shoots appropriately to focus nutrients on the main vine and fruit growth. Water consistently, especially during fruiting, to avoid cracking fruits.
6. Harvest: About 60-80 days after sowing, when the cherry tomatoes turn bright red (or yellow, depending on the variety) and feel slightly soft, they are ripe and ready to harvest. Pick them gently to avoid damaging the vines—you can pick them one by one or in small clusters.
Tips: Cherry tomatoes are heat-loving plants; avoid planting in cold weather (temperature below 10℃ will affect growth). They are also resistant to common garden pests, but you can use neem oil if pests appear, which is safe and environmentally friendly.
Our cherry tomato seeds are carefully selected to ensure high germination rate and healthy growth. Whether you plant them on your balcony, windowsill, or garden, you can enjoy the fun of planting and harvest fresh, sweet cherry tomatoes all season long!
